How Fan Tan is played

A dealer covers a pile of beads or buttons with a cup, then pulls the cup away. The dealer counts the pile off in groups of four with a wand. The last group holds one, two, three or four beads, and that number decides the round.

1. Bet on a number from 1 to 4, or on a combination of numbers, before the timer ends.
2. The dealer reveals the pile and counts it off in fours.
3. The leftover beads, 1 to 4, are the winning number.
4. Bets on that number are paid and all others are collected.

A round with a leftover of 4 means the last group of four came out exactly, which is why the number 4 is a possible result.

Fan Tan bets and payouts

The fan tan game offers a single-number bet and several combination bets. Standard published payouts run like this.

The Fan Tan game live: what changes

The live version replaces the physical pile with a studio table and a camera, so you see the dealer’s cup, the beads and the count on screen. The rules stay the same. Rounds run on a betting timer, and a result appears as soon as the count finishes.

A named example: Lea bets ₱20 on Fan number 3. The dealer counts the pile and 3 beads remain. At the standard 3 to 1, she wins ₱60 plus her ₱20 stake back, before any commission a table applies.

Why Fan Tan suits careful bankrolls

Each round has only four possible outcomes, so you can see the odds at a glance and avoid losing track of the maths. The single-number Fan bet is the high-payout bet, and the two-number Kwok is the lower-risk bet because half the outcomes win it.
