Blackjack rewards the player who knows four decisions cold: double, split, insure and surrender. A blackjack double down is the biggest single lever you have, because it lets you put more money on your best spots. Blackjack Double Down: When to Double
Doubling means you raise your bet by an amount equal to your first bet, take exactly one more card and then stand. You may usually do it only on your first two cards.

Example: you bet 50 pesos and hold 6 and 5 against a dealer 6. Double to 100, receive one card, and stand. If it is a 10, you hold 21 and win 100 on top of your stake.
Blackjack Split: Pairs You Always and Never Split
A blackjack split turns one pair into two hands, and you place a second bet equal to your first. The rule of thumb is short.

Say you hold 8 and 8 against a dealer 10. A hard 16 is the worst hand in the game, but two hands starting on 8 each have a chance to improve. Tables differ on whether you can double after splitting and how many times you may split, so open the game’s info screen to read them.
Blackjack Insurance: Why Basic Strategy Says No
Blackjack insurance is a side bet, offered when the dealer’s up-card is an ace. You stake up to half your original bet, and it pays 2 to 1 if the dealer’s hidden card gives blackjack.
In a 52-card deck 16 cards carry ten value, which is 4 in 13, less than the one in three you need to break even at 2 to 1. Example: you bet 100 and take 50 insurance.

Blackjack Surrender: Giving Up Half Your Bet
Blackjack surrender lets you fold a bad hand and get half your bet back. It is a table option, so it appears only where the rules include it.

The usual surrender spots are a hard 16 against a dealer 9, 10 or ace and a hard 15 against a dealer 10. Never surrender a hand of 17 or better.
